Geek News You Should Know: 5/22/14

1) Disney released the teaser trailer for it's newest animated movie Big Robot 6 which is scheduled to hit theaters in November 7, 2014 and it looks dare I say incredible.  Plus, this minute and a half had more laughs in it the entire movie The Nut Job.  This is Disney's first venture into making an animated Marvel movie as it's based off a comic series that made it's debut in 1998.  This was a really cool idea for a Marvel-produced Disney movie and hopefully the first of many to come!

2) After about an 8-year hiatus from when we were first supposed to get it, Sin City 2 is finally hitting theaters August 22, 2014 and I wouldn't believe it other than the fact that they released character posters that have that date on them.  Nothing truly mindblowing here, other than the fact that this movie is actually coming out.

3) Fast & Furious 7 is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2015 and there has been a lot of wonder on what will be done to replace Paul Walker's un-filmed parts in this movie and some details have emerged from The Hollywood Reporter.  They are using a combination of Paul Walker's two brothers and teaming up with Weta to overlap Paul's face over the footage.  This is going to cost a lot of money and the budget is scheduled to fall in the $250 million range after the last film cost around $160 million to make.  To read the full details, check them out here.

4) We talked about Dark Horse's solicitations for August last week, this week the other major companies released their plans for August.  Marvel is wrapping up their summer event Original Sin, which I'm sure will lead to an autumn of Original Sin-fallout.  They are also celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Marvel by releasing a special magazine detailing everything from the Golden Age to today with looks at the characters and creators using interviews, articles, and all the Marvel highlights over the past 75 years.  You can see the rest of August's Marvel books here.

DC looks to complicate their world again starting this August by releasing The Multiversity #1. Written by Grant Morrison this book starts to introduce "Vampire League of Earth-43, the Justice Riders of Earth-18, Superdemon, Doc Fate, the super-sons of Superman and Batman, the rampaging Retaliators of Earth-8, the Atomic Knights of Justice, Dino-Cop, Sister Miracle, Lady Quark, the legion of Sivanas, the Nazi New Reichsmen of Earth-10 and the latest, greatest Super Hero of Earth-Prime: YOU!"  I have no idea what this means or if it's exciting to DC fans as I don't read much DC but I hope this is one of those books I regret picking up but can't feel completely puzzled by it right now.

Also coming from DC is a new series Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman, which sounds like it will tell a bunch of different Wonder Woman tales with the first issue featuring Diana Prince spending some time filling in for Batman in Gotham City.  This sounds like a lot of fun and comes from the mind of Gail Simone and pencil of Ethan Van Sciver.  You can check out more DC books coming out in August here.

Image Comics has some new books coming out as well including The Fade Out #1, which I talked about a few days ago, which is the new book by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.  Also coming out is a new book by Steven T. Seagel (not to be confused with Steven Seagal) about a man who has to decide to marry the woman of his dreams or becoming the world's only superhero.  Plus a bunch of other good stuff that you can check out here.

5) The official ratings for the 2013-2014 TV season were released today, so you can see where your favorite shows rank on the chart which you can view here.  The scale isn't completely accurate as airings of repeats do count towards the average viewer totals negatively, which provides a boost for shows that haven't had any repeats.  I found it to be pretty interesting but then again I am an accountant.
