Geek News You Should Know: 5/29/14

I am proud to say that this little website of mine has crossed 10,000 page views and just want to thank everyone for checking out. Hopefully you enjoy coming here and checking out the stuff I've been writing. And on that note, how about some geek news?

1) It seems like every time I push the publish button on article recently, the days biggest news story breaks and then I have to cover it in the next days news. Last night it broke that Hulu might have some interest in bringing Community over to it's platform for a sixth season. Hulu has wanted to expand it's original television programming and much like Netflix did with Arrested Development, this would be a great way to make an impact on that landscape. Dan Harmon sounded like he was done with the show but hopefully a deal can be worked out as more Community would be a fantastic thing.

2) In reboot news, it was announced that they are planning a remake of the 1993 Sylvester Stallone mountain climbing movie Cliffhanger.  Also, Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, who are currently working on the Independence Day sequels which they are saying will shoot back-to-back, are also planning to reboot the franchise that started their careers Stargate.  While Stargate only had one money, it spawned multiple TV series, no word on if anything previous will be considered canon but many think this will be a clean refresh of the Stargate-verse.

3) James Cameron is teaming up with Cirque Du Soleil to bring a Live Avator tour that will debut in late 2015 which means it'll start before the three Avatar sequels are released in theaters.  Sounds like an interesting and unique way to experience Avatar if you are a fan of the movie and/or Cirque Du Soleil.

4) A trailer was released for the movie What If, which is a romantic comedy starring Daniel Radcliffe and Ruby Sparks' Zoe Kazan, who are a couple that are basically perfect for each other, except for the fact she already has a boyfriend.  While, it's looks a little stereotypical romantic comedy I'm all in.  Check out the trailer below.

5) In probably the strangest news in a while, Marilyn Manson will be appearing in the final season of Sons of Anarchy this fall in a recurring role as prison-yard white supremacist. I'm sure he'll be fine on the show, just seems a little out of left field for the casting considering he doesn't have a lot of acting experience.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/28/14

1) We have a Daredevil.  British born actor Charlie Cox will be playing the blind lawyer from Hell's Kitchen in the upcoming Netflix series that takes place in the official Marvel cinematic universe.  Charlie Cox is probably most commonly associated with playing Owen Slater on Boardwalk Empire, but has also been in Downton Abbey as well as the movie Stardust.  It was announced over the weekend that executive producer Drew Goddard was stepping down from the show and being replaced by Steven S. DeKnight.

2) Team Unicorn is Adult Swim's newest show and is a hybrid cartoon/live action show being produced by Robot Chicken's Matthew Senreich and Seth Green, with Green directing the pilot.  Team Unicorn is like Sailor Moon meets The Powerpuff Girls and will star Clare Grant (Seth Green's wife), Rileah Vanderbilt, Milynn Sarley, and former Attack of the Show host Alison Haislip.  Meanwhile, Jane Lynch will voice the villain on the show, Alan Tudyk voices her sidekick, and Tara Strong will voice Billy, who has the power to summon Team Unicorn.  This should be an interesting show and sounds like it would be right up Anthony's alley.  Here's a picture of the cast.

3) Earth to Echo is a really cool looking family movie coming out this summer about an ET-like robot creature that lands on Earth and meets some kids. A new trailer was released today and just sells this movie even more.  Can't wait to check this out when it is released July 2.

4) After weeks of rumors, Apple officially announced that it will be buying the Beats brand for $3 billion and co-founders Jimmy Iovine and hip-hop legend Dr. Dre will be joining Apple in some capacity.  Apple claims that it will be keeping the Beats brand alive and keep releasing their headphones and speakers, but will also integrate the Beats brand into their own products down the road.

5) Take a look, it's on Kickstarter, it's Reading Rainbow!  Lavar Burton plans to revisit Reading Rainbow and distribute it to classrooms all across the country and is looking for you to help him.  He has set a somewhat lofty goal of $1 million dollars and is amazingly only about $30,000 away from reaching it at the time this is being written.  It's a really cool idea to spark interest in reading for children.  The plan is to make an online reading experience that will extend to apps and reach children in home and in the classroom.  You can check out the Kickstarter here and view the video below.

Movie Reviews: 5/28/14

3 Days to Kill is the most recent in a seemingly endless string of movies co-written by Luc Besson, seriously it seems like he has at least 11 of these movies every year.  In this action-thriller Kevin Costner is a retired spy who tries to reconnect with his family but needs to take one last job to have access to an experimental drug that could save his life.  This is not a bad movie and something that I could easily see having a good cable audience.  This tries to be The Professional with the father-daughter relationship but it just never comes close to touching those levels in story telling.

2 Estranged Father-Daughter Relationships Out of 5

Pompeii is easily the most head scratching movie of the year so far.  It's a love story inside of a Gladiator-style movie, inside of a disaster movie.  Nothing seems to really click and at the end of the day, I didn't really feel anything for any characters when they all meet their demise.  Is that a spoiler?  The entire premise of the movie is a giant volcano that murders everyone so I don't think so, but expect about as happy of an ending as a movie like this can have.  Kiefer Sutherland is in this movie and as much as I like Jack Bauer, he should not have been cast in this as he felt completely out of place.  I'm not sure what audience this was going for, there's too much violence and death for this to be a chick flick, and I'm not sure it'll ever find much of one because it's just not a very good movie.

1 Ancient Civilization Destroyed By a Volcano Out of 5

Vampire Academy sadly is just not a very good movie.  This movie is like if Twilight took place inside of Mean Girls, but unfortunately just never really clicks.  It's not funny/clever enough to really make a lasting impression and the teenage vampire love story seems a little tired at this point.  The acting performances weren't all bad as I thought Zoey Duetch carried this movie, but her co-star Lucy Fry just never seemed anything other than bland.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/27/14

Not a lot of news over this Memorial Day Weekend, so sorry for the updates.  Covered most of the weekend news on Episode 107 of the podcast, so if you haven't listened to that, you really should.

1) X-Men: Days of Future Past looked on pace of breaking $100 million domestically this weekend (which has yet to be done in 2014) but fell short bringing in $91.4 million, although it did hit $111 million including Monday.  This was the fifth-largest opening ever on Memorial Day weekend behind Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Indiana Jones 4, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Fast & Furious 6.  Meanwhile, Blended flustered a bit this weekend bringing in only a little over $14 million.  Here are the official 4-day Memorial Day Weekend Box Office numbers courtesy of BoxOfficeMojo.com.

1 N X-Men: Days of Future Past Fox $110,576,604 - 3,996 - $27,672 $110,576,604 $200 1

2) While it was largely just an Internet rumor, it seems as though Alfonso Cuaron will not be directing Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, as he is burned out on big visual effects for the time being and needs a break.

3) The new game for PS3, PS4, X-Box 360, and X-Box One Watch Dogs hit store shelves at midnight tonight and looks pretty awesome.  If I wasn't blowing my video game budget on Mario Kart 8 this week, I would definitely consider picking this up.  Recently, Conan featured this game on his Clueless Gamer segment on his show and it was hilarious per usual.  Check it out below.

4) Nia Vardalos is looking to spray a little Windex on her career as she has written a sequel to her 2002 independent smash-hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding.  The sequel will be based on her experiences with motherhood and John Corbett will be coming back as her husband.  I hope this can recreate the magic the first movie possessed.

5) In addition to the news that season 2 of True Detective will take place in California and feature 3 lead characters, there was a trailer sent to our attention by listener Erica for Nicolas Sparks' Lifetime Backdoor Pilot, Deliverance Creek.  The two-hour movie, that could lead to a series, is Nicholas Sparks' first foray into television stars Lauren Ambrose as a Civil War era widow who has to protect her children at any cost.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/23/14

1) The new season of Doctor Who is going to be premiering earlier than most thought, August 2014.  They also released a very short teaser and it is definitely just a tease which you can check out below.

2) The Pete Holmes Show which followed Conan on TBS every night has been cancelled by the network due to low ratings.  The show's last episode will air on June 5.

3) The director of Godzilla, Gareth Edwards, will be in the director's chair for the untitled Star Wars spinoff movie that will hit theaters December 16, 2016.  Nobody is certain which movie this will be at this point but the rumor mill tends to believe it'll be the Boba Fett movie.  Interesting to see him opt to not make the next Godzilla movie, but if you have a chance to make a Star Wars movie, I guess you have to take it, right?

4) While Alfonso Cuaron has recently been linked to directing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, he has also been offered the chance to direct The Overlook Hotel, which will be a prequel to 1980's The Shining.  The project is currently being written by former The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara.

5) I love Catfish on MTV, it's easily one of the strangest and most interesting reality TV shows on the air.  This article gives a really cool behind the scenes look on how the show is made.  It's nice to know that everything we see on the air is real, however the producers have the answers the whole time and don't give them up.  It's a good read if you're a fan of the show.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/22/14

1) Disney released the teaser trailer for it's newest animated movie Big Robot 6 which is scheduled to hit theaters in November 7, 2014 and it looks dare I say incredible.  Plus, this minute and a half had more laughs in it the entire movie The Nut Job.  This is Disney's first venture into making an animated Marvel movie as it's based off a comic series that made it's debut in 1998.  This was a really cool idea for a Marvel-produced Disney movie and hopefully the first of many to come!

2) After about an 8-year hiatus from when we were first supposed to get it, Sin City 2 is finally hitting theaters August 22, 2014 and I wouldn't believe it other than the fact that they released character posters that have that date on them.  Nothing truly mindblowing here, other than the fact that this movie is actually coming out.

3) Fast & Furious 7 is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2015 and there has been a lot of wonder on what will be done to replace Paul Walker's un-filmed parts in this movie and some details have emerged from The Hollywood Reporter.  They are using a combination of Paul Walker's two brothers and teaming up with Weta to overlap Paul's face over the footage.  This is going to cost a lot of money and the budget is scheduled to fall in the $250 million range after the last film cost around $160 million to make.  To read the full details, check them out here.

4) We talked about Dark Horse's solicitations for August last week, this week the other major companies released their plans for August.  Marvel is wrapping up their summer event Original Sin, which I'm sure will lead to an autumn of Original Sin-fallout.  They are also celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Marvel by releasing a special magazine detailing everything from the Golden Age to today with looks at the characters and creators using interviews, articles, and all the Marvel highlights over the past 75 years.  You can see the rest of August's Marvel books here.

DC looks to complicate their world again starting this August by releasing The Multiversity #1. Written by Grant Morrison this book starts to introduce "Vampire League of Earth-43, the Justice Riders of Earth-18, Superdemon, Doc Fate, the super-sons of Superman and Batman, the rampaging Retaliators of Earth-8, the Atomic Knights of Justice, Dino-Cop, Sister Miracle, Lady Quark, the legion of Sivanas, the Nazi New Reichsmen of Earth-10 and the latest, greatest Super Hero of Earth-Prime: YOU!"  I have no idea what this means or if it's exciting to DC fans as I don't read much DC but I hope this is one of those books I regret picking up but can't feel completely puzzled by it right now.

Also coming from DC is a new series Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman, which sounds like it will tell a bunch of different Wonder Woman tales with the first issue featuring Diana Prince spending some time filling in for Batman in Gotham City.  This sounds like a lot of fun and comes from the mind of Gail Simone and pencil of Ethan Van Sciver.  You can check out more DC books coming out in August here.

Image Comics has some new books coming out as well including The Fade Out #1, which I talked about a few days ago, which is the new book by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.  Also coming out is a new book by Steven T. Seagel (not to be confused with Steven Seagal) about a man who has to decide to marry the woman of his dreams or becoming the world's only superhero.  Plus a bunch of other good stuff that you can check out here.

5) The official ratings for the 2013-2014 TV season were released today, so you can see where your favorite shows rank on the chart which you can view here.  The scale isn't completely accurate as airings of repeats do count towards the average viewer totals negatively, which provides a boost for shows that haven't had any repeats.  I found it to be pretty interesting but then again I am an accountant.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/21/14

1) The Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman has undergone another name change to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, basically signifying officially that this movie will be the launching point for the Justice League.  It is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2016 (probably).

BATMAN v SUERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE logo

2) Doctor Who Season 8 has started filming and we have some shots as Peter Capaldi (in a lovely orange spacesuit) with the Tardis.  No real meaning to the pictures other than I could not be more excited for some new Doctor Who episodes.

DOCTOR WHO S8 filming +

 3) If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber today is the first day that you can access HBO's vast library using that service.  It includes shows like The Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Enlightened, Flight of the Conchords, and Extras which I all recommend as well as lots of other series, HBO miniseries and films, and comedy specials.  Current shows like Girls, The Newsroom, Veep, True Blood (first 3 seasons available) and Boardwalk Empire (which the first season is up) will be added over time.  Guessing there's going to be something along the lines of a 3-year gap between when content airs and when it goes to Amazon Prime, which can be sped up if the series ends or something like that.  You can check out the content here.

4) Gillian Jacobs, who played Britta Perry on the recently cancelled NBC sitcom Community, has been announced as the newest recurring character on the HBO smash-hit Girls.  No word on what character she'll be playing but as a big fan of both Gillian and Girls, I am excited!

5) In a movie right up the AB Convo's alley, a new romantic comedy directed by David Wain and starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler titled They Came Together released it's first clip online today and it looks like a more grown up version of Wet Hot American Summer (that is still completely immature).  The movie also features Cobie Smulders, Jason Mantzoukas, Michael Ian Black, Ed Helms, and I'm sure a gaggle of other awesome people.  It is hitting VOD and select theaters on June 27. Check out the clip below.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/20/14

1) Disney has announced that starting this September, going on tour will be Frozen on Ice.  That makes a tremendous amount of sense as an Disney on Ice event and the perfect time to capitalize on their mega-smash hit.  Frozen on Ice will be hosted by Mickey and Minnie Mouse and also feature cameos from other Disney characters.  The tour will start in Orlando in September and make it's way around the country.  The show will feature 39 skaters and will have six different versions going around the United States in 2014 and 2015.  Ticket information can be found here.

disney frozen on ice

2) Sadly, there are going to be no Pixar movies released in theaters this year, however that doesn't mean we are going to be without any new Pixar content as Disney released a new Cars short titled "The Radiator Springs 500 1/2" as streaming content on their Disney Movies Anywhere service.  While I'm not the biggest Cars fan, I definitely look forward to checking this out and you can to by going here.

3) A very underrated and canceled gem of a show, Enlisted, will have it's four remaining episodes aired on FOX starting June 1 and over the next 4 weeks.  If you haven't checked out this very funny military family based comedy, I recommend doing so as most of the episodes can be found on Hulu.

4) The trailer for the new Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Wanted) comic book adaptation of The Secret Service will be titled Kingsman: The Secret Service and has hit the internet today along with a poster for the movie.  I'm a huge fan of the comic book and can't wait to see the movie, should be a lot of fun and Colin Firth is great casting for the main character.

5) The the sequel to The Lego Movie is being worked on, it was announced today that the "spinoff" project based on Lego's popular Ninjago line of toys will be hitting theaters in Fall 2016.  I really have no idea what Ninjago is, other than seeing some of the toys in stores.  I'm guessing this leans towards a younger audience, but hopefully will have elements that appeal to all audiences.  I mean, they're ninjas, it can't be all bad.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/19/14

Happy Monday!  Hope you all had a chance to check out episode 106 of the podcast, we had a lot of fun talking about Godzilla, the new Fall TV shows, and a lot more so check it out!

1) The teaser trailer for Zach Braff's Kickstarter backed project, Wish I Was Here, launched a couple of weeks ago and now finally the full trailer was released online.  I'm very impressed by how good this movie looks at this point and I'm glad I threw a couple of duckets towards making it because it is truly entertainment like this that I would like to see get made.  As a bonus before watching the trailer on the website, they had me type in my e-mail so Zach Braff could give a special message for helping make the movie, a very cool touch.  Probably the highlight for me was to see Zach Braff and Donald Faison back together again. Eagle!  This movie hits theaters July 18, 2014.

2)  In other trailer news, the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer was released online as well.  This upcoming Marvel sci-fi adventure will help blend the cosmic aspects of the Marvel universe, especially the Thanos teaser at the end of The Avengers, into the continuity of the Marvel films.  Guardians lands in movie theaters August 1, 2014.  You can check out the trailer on the Guardians Facebook page.

3) In news, that makes me amazingly happy, Nikki Finke is reporting that Alfonso Cuaron is deep in talks to direct the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them.  Cuaron is no stranger to the Potterverse having previously directed my favorite of those movies, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, in addition to Gravity and Children of Men.  Needless to say, this is a terrific choice and I can't wait to see what Cuaron brings to this movie, which is currently planning on a November 2016 release.

4) AT&T is set to purchase DirecTV, which has some pretty huge ramifications as this will provide a greater alternative to cable as they can sell their television, data, and telephone packages on a much bigger scale now.  This will also provide a better infrastructure to offer high-speed bandwidth to more rural areas.

5) AMC has released the full first episode of their new series Halt and Catch Fire on Tumblr of all places.  It will be available on Tumblr up until May 31, before it premieres on the network June 1.  The Tumblr tie-in isn't completely out of left field as the show does deal with the rise of the PC in the 1980's shortly after IBM released their first computer and in premise kind of sounds like Mad Men meets a more serious version of HBO's Silicon Valley.  The show stars Pushing Daisies' Lee Pace in the main role and if AMC puts it on the air (or in this case the internet) I'm going to give it a chance.  You can give it a chance by going here.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/18/14 Weekend Edition

1) Godzilla stomped on the competition this weekend opening up to an estimated $93 million.  The other new movie that hit theaters, Million Dollar Arm, finished up at 4th place behind Neighbors and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with an estimated $10 million, which has to be a little disappointing for Disney.  Here is the top 10 movies this week courtesy of BoxOfficeMojo.com.

2)  Speaking of which, a sequel for Godzilla is in the works at Warner Bros. & Legendary Pictures, which surprises absolutely no one.  I'm sure more details will be released over upcoming months.

3) IGN has released their review for the highly anticipated Mario Kart 8 game coming out May 30th.  They gave it a very solid 9 out of 10.  You can check out their review here.

4)  As we talked about at the end of episode 106 today, AMC has picked up 3 new series to debut on their network.  The first of which is Chris Hardwick's All-Star Celebrity Bowling, where Chris and his friends battle different groups like the cast of Mad Men and Breaking Bad.  This was originally shown on the Nerdist YouTube channel but it will be redone for TV with Randy and Jason Sklar hosting.  Here is one of my favorites as they battle some WWE superstars.

5) Also being picked up by AMC is a reality series circling around Smashing Pumpkins' frontman Billy Corgan's Chicago based wrestling promotion, Resistance Pro, focusing on the behind the scenes aspects of running a wrestling promotion, which in many cases are sometimes even more interesting than what happens during the event.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/16/14

1) The new Christopher Nolan movie, Interstellar, hits theaters this November and the first trailer hit the interwebs today, and it looks AWESOME!  It stars Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Casey Affleck and Michael Caine and takes place on Earth in a not so distant future where food becomes scarce and McConaughey and a few other explorers go into space to try to find a solution for humanity.  This trailer is absolutely beautiful and I could not be more excited to see this film.

2) The first cast picture from Pitch Perfect 2 was posted on Rebel Wilson's twitter account yesterday and shows the gang, along with Director Elizabeth Banks, rocking some Barden Bellas jackets.  Hey, it's a slow news day and Pitch Perfect was an amazing movie, plus it's nice to see Banksy, Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and the rest of the gang re-united.

Elizabeth Banks and the Pitch Perfect 2 cast

3) A new poster for Guardians of the Galaxy was released online today and you have to believe that this will be the official theatrical poster for the movie.  It is completely bad ass. Also, there will be a new trailer for the movie released on Monday, which I'll post up here in Monday's article and Anthony will be posting in his twitter all day and watching about 927 times.

The latest poster for Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy." (Marvel)

 4) The reason to buy an X-Box One is only a year and a half away as Microsoft has officially announced Halo 5: Guardians for the system to be released in Fall 2015.  Very few details have been released as they plan on making a more formal presentation at E3 in a few weeks but here a promo image.  The Halo TV Series produced by Steven Spielberg will be available to watch on the X-Box One around the same time.

Hero_Halo5

 5) Dark Horse Comics has released it's August 2014 Solicitations and this notes the last month that Star Wars will be releasing individual issues of comic books, they'll still have some trades in place to be released in later months of 2014 but it is the last month of floppies until Marvel takes over the license in 2015.  Also coming out are a continuation of Buffy: Season 10 as well as a new Blacksad: Amarillo collection, which Anthony gave rave reviews of the first book.

Movie Reviews: 4/29/14

Labor Day: A single mother played by Kate Winslet lets an escaped convict (Josh Brolin) move in with her and her son.  While the premise sounds like a very interesting romantic movie with some tension thrown in, not knowing what the fugitives great intentions are, it never really gets above being dull.  Considering it's by Jason Reitman who makes interesting movies like Juno and Young Adult, I was expecting to not be completely bored by this, however I was.  The characters just didn't click with me and while the acting was good, I just don't think they had enough to work with to make the audience feel an emotional investment in the characters.

Review: 2 Escaped Convicts out of 5.

I, Frankenstein: Should have been called I, Boring.  I should have figured when the tagline says "From the Producers of Underworld" to just run away but the completist in me that wants to watch every movie said try it you might like it.  Well I didn't.  It looks just like Underworld too, I think they used the same lighting crew and same 1800's London sets to create a very blueish atmosphere, because if you didn't know the lights are extra blue when there are monsters present.  If you're into the Underworld and Van Helsing movies, you'll probably enjoy this.  If you didn't it's not a terrible movies to watch with friends and make fun of, but that's about all.

Review: 1 Monster out of 5.

Endless Love:  This movie is a classic example of why I watch try to watch every movie I can.  I totally thought this was going to be a huge bust strictly released to try to make some money in theaters for Valentine's Day and it surprised the hell out of me.  It's not a very good movie and falls into cliches far too often but I couldn't find myself physically rooting and being emotionally invested when things would happen. The acting was good, especially the overprotective father played by Bruce Greenwood was particularly awesome.

Geek News You Should Know: 5/15/14

1) The creators of such awesome comic books as Criminal, Sleeper, and Fatale, Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips have announced their newest creation, The Fade Out.  I'm not a huge noir nerd, so I was a little hesitant to pick up their books, and I'm not going to lie, sometimes I find them a little hard to get into at first, but once I do there are very few things I'd rather pick up.  The first issue is going to clock-in at 40 pages and will also be available in a movie magazine sized variant with extra art and articles in the back.  The coolest part about picking up the individual issues for Brubaker/Phillips books is they usually feature a unique article in the back of the book that is only available in the floppy.  The first issue will be available to pre-order in June and hit store shelves in August.

2) Katey Segal, most famous for her work on the small screen as Peg Bundy in Married With Children and Gemma on Sons of Anarchy, will be dancing her way onto the big screen in Pitch Perfect 2.  She will be playing the mom to new aca-awesome cast addition Hailee Steinfeld.  Segal recently released her first album, so it will be interesting to see how she plays into the grand scheme of things and maybe be a previous member of the Bellas.  I could not be more excited to find out and it comes out exactly a year from today.

3) The producers of the new film In Your Eyes, written by Joss Whedon have sent out gifts to random people who rented the film from Vimeo shortly after it was released.  Amongst the prizes mailed out were AppleTVs, X-Box Ones, Rokus, grills, autographed posters and scripts, and even a cactus!  Very cool way of giving back to the fans.

4) The WWE's contract with NBC/Universal was set to expire in October and this included all television shows shown on the network primarily Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown, these shows earn the WWE $160 million annually in revenue and WWE was hoping to double this number with it's new deal.  It was announced today during the NBC/Universal upfront that WWE and the networks have renewed their deal with a slight boost in income.  Details are scarce on what, if any, changes will be made.  There have been talks about airing Smackdown live on Tuesdays since it is recorded on Tuesdays right now, also no word on when replays of these shows would be permitted with the WWE Network.

5)  Finally the last of the major networks, The CW, has announced their 2014-2015 TV plans.  The only real change to the time slots is The Originals has moved to Monday nights.  Hart of Dixie and Beauty & the Beast have both been moved to mid-season and are presumably on their last legs as a series.  The most interesting CW new series iZombie, by Veronica Mars' Rob Thomas will also be coming mid-season.

The CW only has 2 new shows in fall, airing on Mondays is Jane the Virgin is about a 23-year-old girl that hasn't had sex that becomes accidentally artificially inseminated.  The other new show is The Flash, which was a concept that premiered on Arrow and will spinoff from their into it's own series.  This, of course, stars the comic book character The Flash (played by Glee's Grant Gustin) and will focus on him trying to solve his mother's murder and prove his father's innocence, and probably fight a few bad guys along the way.

Here's the updated Fall Schedule that me and my wife use.  Orange are new shows, blue are shows we both watch, red are shows she watches by herself, and yellow are ones that I watch by myself, and green are shows we do not watch:
