TV Previews
It seems like forever since we saw the last of Amy and Rory Pond, but season 7.5 of Doctor Who is coming to BBC America on Saturday March 30. The overlying story of the new companion looks awesome and I can't wait to see how it plays out. Here's a trailer for what's coming up!
Christopher Guest, the brilliant mind who brought you This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, and Best in Show comes a new television series starring Chris O'Dowd (Bridesmaids, Friends with Kids) called Family Tree. It's coming to HBO in May and looks absolutely hilarious! It features a lot of Christopher Guest regulars like Fred Willard and Ed Begley Jr.

Now You See Me Trailer
Listener/friend of the podcast Erica tweeted us asking our opinion about the upcoming summer movie, NOW YOU SEE ME. At first I thought it was a WWE Films movie starring John Cena, but it turns out it’s much better than that. It stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrellson, Isla Fischer, Morgan Freeman, Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Caine and is about… well just watch the trailer. Needless to say, it looks crazy/awesome and has definitely gotten my interest. If Mr. Bean reviewed this movie he would only need one word, MAGIC!
On an interesting note this movie is directed by Louis Leterrier, who also directed the 2008 INCREDIBLE HULK movie. Mark Ruffalo who played the Hulk in the Avengers movie was turned down for the role of the Hulk in this movie as they chose Edward Norton instead.

Veronica Mars Movie!!!!
This is probably the most exciting thing I’ve seen in a while and has HUGE potential to shake the geek landscape for years to come!
For those that don’t know Veronica Mars was a show that aired on UPN and The CW from 2004 to 2007, it had a rapid cult following but little more than that. That really was a damn shame since this was one of my favorite shows of not just this time but all time and I know Anthony feels the same way. I even showed Julie this little show about a high school girl becoming a detective, which she thought sounded hella-lame at the time and it even made her fall in love with this show. All three seasons are affordably priced on Amazon, especially seasons 1 and 2 which are going for $12.49 and $11.70 each respectively right now.
Ever since Veronica Mars ended, the fans, cast and crew of Veronica Mars wanted to do a movie however Warner Bros. which owns the rights to the Veronica Mars series has said no. And understandably so since cult TV shows being turned into movies hasn’t been proven as a money maker yet. Brilliantly however, Rob Thomas (Executvie Producer and not the front man for Matchbox Twenty) and Kristen Bell (star of the show) had a brilliant idea, if the people that love the Veronica Mars show and are dying to see another 2 hours of it in movie form want to fund the movie, will Warner Bros. allow this movie to happen? That answer is yes.
With that the Veronica Mars kickstarter was launched among the masses a few hours ago and has already reached almost $650,000 including some of my very own. They have lots of cool packages to pick from starting with $10 and getting a digital copy of the script to $10,000 for a speaking role in the movie (Already gone!). For $25 you get a t-shirt, $35 for a digital version, $50 for a DVD, $75 for a poster, $100 for a Blu-Ray/DVD combo, and a lot more from there.
Anthony and I are tremendous believers in Kickstarter’s potential to do good. Not only can you fund things that you want to see but also get rewards for helping out the movie in it’s early stages and it’s nice to see things like that this have a ravenous following being able to support something that want to see. This is such a great time for fandom. To see something like Veronica Mars be able to pull together it’s followers and make a movie is fantastic. This is the future. This is where the new wave of entertainment begins. Kevin Smith had this same idea with Red State (pre-Kickstarter) and this is the perfect avenue to tell if ideas like these are going to be successful. I truly believe that this is just the beginning of how your entertainment dollars are going to be spent. There will always be things like Star Wars and Marvel Comics movies that won’t need Kickstarter. This is the largest funding campaign in Kickstarter history for a film and if this is successful, this will lead to more things getting the same treatment.
Considering it’s got 29 more days to go and is looking like it’s on track for $2,000,000, but they’ll certainly take more and every little bit helps this movie become bigger and better. It’s great that we’ll see a Veronica Mars movie in our lives in the very near future (or at least after Kristen has her baby). You can head on over to their Kickstarter page and help fund this movie right now. I have included their awesome video from the Kickstarter page here featuring many members of the cast and it makes me want to see this movie even more!
Kick-Ass 2 Trailer
Here is the trailer for Kick-Ass 2. While it’s sadly not coming out until August 16th, it’s amongst my top movies that I’m excited for this summer and this first trailer definitely has me anxious for that date. Please be warned this is the red band version of the trailer so it does feature profane language and some violence, but that’s what Kick-Ass is all about!

Sherlock Coming Winter 2013
Sherlock is one of my favorite TV shows, in as much as it really isn’t much of a TV show. Sherlock instead films 3 episodes a season, all of which are around an hour and a half long. The show stars Benedict Cumberbatch (the villian in the upcoming Star Trek film) and Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins’ in The Hobbit films) and is a re-imagining of classic Sherlock Holmes stories in modern times* and is absolutely brilliant. Need another reason to watch it? Steven Moffat the current showrunner and writer of some of the best Doctor Who** episdoes, including “Blink”, created this show and writes one of the three episodes each season.
I’ve talked a little bit on the podcast about Sherlock but I just found out that they plan on beginning production on Season 3 this week and should be airing this coming winter. I could not be more excited as this gives me a chance to hopefully revisit all of the episodes before then but also gives those who haven’t watched it yet the opportunity to do so. It is available for Free on Amazon Prime Instant Video and I believe it’s also available with your streaming Netflix account (I don’t have one to double check but it was when I was last subscribed). So what are you waiting for? Enjoy Sherlock today and thank me later.
*But Brent, that idea sounds familar and is already being done by Elementary on CBS. F*** that show.
**You don’t watch Doctor Who? What’s wrong with you?
Over 700 Marvel Titles For FREEEEEEEE!!!!!
If you are a regular reader of comics or haven’t started yet, Marvel has announced an initiative to get new readers on board and it’s probably the greatest comic promotion of all time. Free Comic Book Day has nothing on this.
On the Marvel Comics App for your smartphone, they have over 700 #1 issues of darn near every digital comic Marvel has available. It’s an astonishing selection and a great opportunity to either add a digital version of these comics to your collection or start reading some of the titles you’ve wanted to read.
They have some new releases from the Marvel Now era like All New X-Men #1, Deadpool #1, Superior Spider-Man #1, and Uncanny Avengers #1. They have classic titles that started it all like Avengers #1, Captain America Comics #1, Fantastic Four #1, and Amazing Fantasy #15 (first appearance of Spider-Man). Plus a tremendous amount of Ultimate Comics and Annuals. Like Joss Whedon? They even have the Astonishing X-Men #1 book that started Anthony and my recent love of comics plus his epic Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men Part 1 and 2 that concluded his run on the Astonishing X-Men series. Wolverine: Old Man Logan Giant-Size? Yep. Kevin Smith’s Daredevil #1? Totally. Over 40 books by Brian Michael Bendis? Abso-freaking-lutely.
This promotion is running for free until Tuesday at midnight, so don’t delay. Just be aware that due to server issues, purchases will work but it may take a while to download some of these books.
