So I Think You Should Watch So You Think You Can Dance

So You Think You Can Dance is easily the most underrated competition reality show on television.  I talked about it briefly in one of the episodes of the podcast.  But after last night’s completely ridiculous episode, I have to talk about it again.  It pulls in less than half the ratings of something like American Idol or The Voice but easily tops those shows in greatness.

I know nothing about Dance.  I started watching this show 6 years ago because of Julie and we would talk on AOL instant messanger about the dancers during the show.  I would normally have no interest in any show about dancing but there is just something magnificent about the performances that these amazing individuals put on.  The first few weeks like most shows in this format are auditions (and probably my favorite weeks), it’s pretty much like every audition shows where you get to meet some of the contestants, they dance, and if they do a good job they get a ticket to VEGAS! But watching these tremendous individuals perform solos that they have been practicing  for years or even their entire lives is astonishing.  Of course, after they go to Vegas the competition gets whittled down to the Top 10 girls and Top 10 guys and they perform in pairs (with some group) numbers, choreographed by many of America’s top choreographers, to see who becomes America’s Favorite Dancer.

Ok, so to explain the clip.  Yesterday’s episode was the auditions in Atlanta, earlier in the show one of the members of Dragon House (it’s a dance troupe that shares an apartment) performed and did an awesome job, then later another member auditioned and did an ever better job, and then Glitch performed and this is what happened.

I don’t care how good somebody’s voice is on American Idol or The Voice.  I don’t care how much talent a person has on America’s Got Talent.   If you can find me any better audition than that one (or any performance on Dancing with the Stars), I will be impressed.

Needless to say, start watching So You Think You Can Dance.  Next week is I think the last week of auditions and it’s in Salt Lake City, which is usually the best of the auditions.  Please give Dance a chance!

Episode 7 Show Notes

Here are the official show notes for Episode 7: The Biggest Bunch of Losers James Franco Has Never Seen, which is a reference to James Franco’s quote about the show Girls, which is quickly becoming a big-time favorite of Brent.

Movies:

This week in movies we talk about all of the movies we’ve watched this week:  Brent adored the movie Tiny Furniture (written, directed and starred in by Luna Dunham of Girls).  Also, watched the new hockey comedy Goon.  Anthony talks about watching Crazy, Stupid, Love, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, and Men in Black 3.

We are both looking forward to checking out Safety Not Guarenteed.

Plus, we discuss some movie theaters local to us and a big bunch of movies that are coming out next weekend.  We also talk about some movie news including a Joss Whedon action figure, Iron Man 3 stuff, and the Fraggle Rock movie.

Plus, Piranha 3DD wasn’t released in a lot of theaters and for that reason they decided to release it on Video on Demand day and date, so it is available to download in your home right now.  Click the link below to download and watch it from Amazon, you can even watch it on your PS3, X-Box 360, TiVo, Roku boxes, etc.

TV:

Brent watched one of the first episodes of the Comedy Bang Bang TV show (based on a podcast of the same name) and if you like alternate comedy you should do the same.  It’s for free (presumably for a limited time) on iTunes or at Amazon and worth checking out.

We also watched the pilot for Bunheads, which is available for presumably a short time to stream online, follow the directions on this Tumblr post to watch.  If you were a fan of Gilmore Girls, you will love it.  If you weren’t a fan of Gilmore Girls, you should be!

Plus we talk about The Glee Project and set-up our Fantasy RealiGlee teams.  The rules of Fantasy Reality are as follows, 2 people draft teams of 7 people each (in this instance) and give out points based on elimination.  For example, the first person eliminated would get 14 points, 2nd person eliminated would get 13 points, the Winner gets 1 point.  If two people get eliminated in one episode the first person announced as eliminated will get the higher point total.  The team with the lowest points wins.

On Anthony’s team is: Charlie, Tyler, Blake, Abraham, Lily, Dani, Nellie

On Brent’s team is: Mario, Michael, Maxfield, Ali, Aylin, Taryn, Shanna

Comics:

We discuss Takio, Buffy: Season 9, The Guild: Fawkes, and there not being any Gilmore Girls comics.

Video Games:

We talk a little about the new Star Wars video game and will have more coverage next week as the huge video game event E3, so expect some video game discussion on next week’s podcast.

In Your Mouth:

Brent gives his backstory about Coke Freestyle machines and can’t wait to spend more time with them in the future, Anthony ran into a little bad luck.

We also talk about mmmmeatball (football) subs, pizza burritos, and more things that have been in our mouth!

What the Fuck is the Internet?:

In our technology/online culture segment, Anthony talks about the Flipboard app for the iPhone and we talk about The Guild: Munchkin game.

Listener of the Week:

The listener of the week is Carolyn Janz who listens to us in the car on her way into work in the morning.  Now that’s the perfect way to spend the morning car ride if you ask us!

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter, LIKE us on Facebook, visit our page at Podomatic, and buy something from one of our Amazon banners to help support the show.
